ADHD medication titration
Missed doses, late doses and medication-free days
Missed or late doses happen.
They are not a failure. They are useful notes for your review.
General information only, not medical advice. Last reviewed: 26 May 2026. Clinical/content review: Lisa Hudson, ADHD Nurse Specialist.
If you miss a dose, follow the instructions from your prescriber, pharmacist or patient leaflet. Do not double up unless you have been specifically told to.
For your review, it can be useful to record
- Did you miss a dose?
- Did you take it later than usual?
- Was it a planned medication-free day?
- What did you notice in focus, appetite, sleep, mood or side effects?
- Did anything make it harder to remember, such as routine change, travel, work pressure, sleep disruption or pharmacy supply?
Record what happened. Your prescriber can help you decide what it means.
“Took medication two hours later than usual after a disrupted morning. Sleep was harder that night.”
“Missed dose on Sunday. Felt more distractible but appetite was better.”
Safety note
This guide is for general information only. It does not replace advice from your prescriber, GP, pharmacist or specialist ADHD service. Do not change your medication, dose or timing without speaking to your prescriber.
If you feel seriously unwell or unsafe, seek urgent medical help using the emergency route in your country. In the UK, use NHS 111 for urgent advice or call 999 in an emergency. If you are outside the UK, use your local urgent or emergency medical service.
