ADHD medication titration
Medication timing and how long ADHD medication seems to last
People often ask: “How long should my medication last?”
The honest answer is: it varies.
Different medicines and formulations can have different patterns, and people respond differently. Food, sleep, stress, hormones, caffeine, routine and dose timing may all affect how the day feels.
Instead of trying to decide whether medication has worn off, try tracking what you actually noticed.
- When focus felt easier
- When starting tasks felt easier
- When appetite changed
- When irritability, tiredness or restlessness appeared
- When you felt more like your usual self
- What was happening around that time
- Whether you had eaten, slept, used caffeine, or had an unusually stressful day
That gives your prescriber a clearer picture without jumping to conclusions.
Do not change dose or timing based on a pattern you notice in an app. Use the pattern as a starting point for a conversation with your prescriber.
“Focus felt easier from around 10am to 2pm. By 4pm I felt more scattered and irritable. I had not eaten lunch and slept poorly.”
